Your Animals Are Who You Are

STRESS: How Your stress affects YOUR animals

It creeps up on you, day by day, minute by minute.  Bills have to be paid. Family tugging for your attention. Housework to be done. Work piling up. People relationships gnawing at you. Health challenges. Before you know it, you’re running at least 5 different compartments in your brain at the same time:  What to do now, what to do in a few minutes, what to do today, what to do this week, what to do this month, and then there’s what you should have done yesterday, and the famous what happens if what I do in the future doesn’t pan out the way I think it will? Before you know it, you march in through the door, throw down your keys, and start barking orders. You wonder, why is your family snapping at YOU? You didn’t say anything to them, right?  And then you look over in the corner and see your dog, who appears to be hiding. Your cat is nowhere to be found. And all of a sudden it hits you: you’ve built it, created it and perfected it: STRESS. Your animals are just responding to how YOU deal with stress.

It took me a while to come up with a technique  that would prove to the people that I was working with, that if they were not in a state of calm, or in a state of stress, they would without a doubt affect their animals. The ultimate result of the human being in a state of stress results in problematic behavior of their animals, health issues, and in some cases resulting in the sooner death of their animal.  On the other hand, I have witnessed “miracles” of health, wellness, recovery, as well as behaviors and attitudes of animals turned changing  after a quick session with their owners who “shifted”,  and became more calm individuals.

I have adapted the technique of hypnosis to help animal owners get into the proper state of mind necessary to make this shift. It’s really not hypnosis, but arriving at an altered state that opens the mind to changing its perspective. Conscious as well as deeply rooted subconscious perspectives have to change to make the shift possible. For example, picture a horrific accident- a dog fight with your dog being the target of other dogs. You witness this fight, you defray the fight, and ultimately you save your dog. But then your dog’s behavior changes. He becomes aggressive towards other dogs; fearful; his behavior changes when you take out the leash. It soon becomes a larger scale problem, that goes beyond what you attributed to the attack from the other dog/s. Getting a dog trainer to rework the dog’s behavior is only one part of the solution.  Imagine that your dog can read your stress level based on your behavior, body language, tone of your voice, body mechanics and your thoughts.  And then realize that YOU play a significant part to his behavior. Your dog is reflecting and ultimately responding to YOU!  To change the dog’s behavior, you have to change YOUR perspective.

There a many ways to control your stress level: meditating, listening to calming music, reading, painting, hobbies, …. all will be helpful if coupled with a plan of behavioral as well as mental changes. I have seen miraculous changes in both people and animals as a result of this shifting. It’s a win/win.
